What is Psi Alpha?

Psi Alpha was established in 2018 under the umbrella of Psi Beta, the national honor society for students attending two-year colleges. In 2022, Psi Alpha became an independent organization by obtaining its own 501(c)(3) status. As the international honor society for high school students, Psi Alpha welcomes those who plan to pursue careers in psychology as well as students who simply have a passion for the subject. Our mission is to enhance America’s high school students’ understanding and knowledge of the science of psychology, how psychology benefits society, and career opportunities available in psychology.

Membership

Membership is offered through your school’s Psi Alpha chapter and is open to students who maintain a minimum GPA (typically 3.0), have completed a psychology course with a ‘B’ or higher or scored at least a 3 on the Psychology AP or IB exam. Students who have received a B or higher in at least one marking period of a psychology course are considered eligible. See ‘How to Join’ for specific details. Chapter activities are operated by Psi Alpha student members and faculty advisors, and the National Council guides the affairs and policies of the organization.

Does your school need a chapter?

What if your school doesn’t have a Psi Alpha chapter? Students have been the motivating factor behind the establishment of Psi Alpha chapters. Check with your psychology professor or existing psych club to ask them about starting a Psi Alpha chapter.
